Two experiences shaped Hugues’s approach. Training in natural building materials in France opened a deeper understanding of how the spaces we build influence our comfort and well-being. A year-long study journey through Latin America then explored how cultural communities adapt their homes to their ways of life, local resources and surroundings.
Arriving in Costa Rica in 2014, he founded Gaia Studio with the intention of creating environmentally responsible architecture, rooted in the territory. The name Gaia expresses that connection to the earth.
Today, Hugues guides projects from the first ideas to the final details. His work begins with sensation: the experience of a view, the quiet of a private space and the feeling of belonging within a landscape.
